Recession? What recession? Sure the beverage market has been feeling the effects of the global recession just like everybody else. But you really wouldn’t know it based on the amount of innovation that continues to take place in the beverage sector. In fact, maybe it is because of the bad economy that this year’s innovations seem to be even more extraordinary.
It’s the health and wellness trend that seems to have had the most impact on innovation, says Geoff Vuleta, CEO of New York City-based innovation consultancy firm Fahrenheit 212. “Food technology is allowing for vast improvements in the taste of foods that are low calorie or otherwise healthy,” he says. “We’re seeing massive changes caused by natural, calorie free sweeteners like Stevia and Truvia.”
