NITHYA GEORGE ON TEACHING IN GHANA
Our own Nithya George hosted an inspiring show-and-tell with photos from her recent trip to Ghana as a volunteer teacher with Heart for Humanity.
Donning a traditional Ghanaian smock patterned with images of the country’s most beloved icon, President Barack Obama, Nithya regaled us with tales of mosquito netting, fish head curry, water satchels and more as we enjoyed a lunch of traditional fufu and grasscutter soup. (Okay, falafel and Belgian fries.)
Nithya traveled three hours each day to two classrooms overflowing with eager students. Mornings, she taught vocational school teens about business models and the 4 Ps of marketing. Afternoons, she played vocabulary games with very young children – and was in demand as the lead “Madame” for epic rounds of Simon Says and the Hokey Pokey.
Fufu or not, she’s definitely done us proud.
