Fahrenheit 212 is proud to partner with ORGANIZE to help advance their core mission of solving the organ donation crisis. As part of the company’s Fahrenheit X pro-bono program, Fahrenheit 212 will support the design of a database for altruistic living donors for kidney and liver transplants.

ORGANIZE is a non-profit organization that uses technology, open data and behavioral insights to improve the organ procurement sector. There are currently 121K people waiting for an organ transplant in the United States. ORGANIZE aims to increase the amount of transplantable organs by building a central registry, offering alternative places to register, and creating a web of educational resources supporting donation.

ORGANIZE was founded by Greg Segal, who was touched by his father’s difficulties of procuring a heart transplant, and Jenna Arnold, a media expert who previously worked at MTV and the United Nations to promote social causes. Since its inception in 2014, ORGANIZE has successfully created the nation’s first central registry and is leading a range of initiatives to improve the organ donation process through partnerships with Facebook and Twitter.

More than 95 percent of Americans support organ donation, yet only some 50 percent are registered organ donors. Every 10 minutes someone is added to the national waiting list for a life-saving organ transplant, and 22 people die every day waiting for an organ.

Living organ donation—where a living person donates an organ or part of an organ to someone in need of a transplant—has the potential to drastically reduce the waiting list. There are currently 100K and 15K people waiting for kidney and liver transplants, respectively, but merely 6K living donor transplants have occurred in 2015.

On June 13, 2016, the Obama administration hosted the White House Organ Summit and announced key actions to reduce the organ waiting list. As part of this initiative, a number of different organizations—such as Facebook, NASA, Twitter, Tinder, and Fahrenheit 212 — have made public commitments to increase the options and ease of registering to be an organ donor.
